Faculty Letter to the VPA, President and Senate concerning the Learning Outcomes initiative.

Below is the text of the letter signed by more than 160 faculty expressing opposition to the proposed Learning Outcomes initiative at SFU. If you are a faculty member at SFU and would like to sign, please contact [[cpavsek at sfu dot ca]].

To:

Jonathan Driver, VPA; Andrew Petter, President; and all members of the Senate

We, the undersigned, write to express our opposition to the learning outcomes initiative as put forth in Senate Paper 13-40 and to be considered for action in Senate on April 8, 2013.

The proposal does little to address the many and varied concerns that we have collectively, and in many cases individually, expressed in prior responses to the report of the Learning Outcomes and Assessment Working Group in December, 2012.

This proposal still does not outline in any clear form the anticipated costs of this initiative, nor does it adequately address or assess the increased workload that will result from this policy.

Sincerely,

160+ faculty.
